Why does your Danish boss expect you to disagree with them? Why does nobody seem particularly impressed by your job title? Why does everyone leave at 4 pm? And what exactly are you supposed to do when someone says: “Det kan vi lige kigge på”?

Welcome to working with Danes.

Danish workplaces are famously informal, trusting and flat. That can be wonderfully liberating. It can also be deeply confusing if you didn’t grow up with the unwritten rules.

In this lively and practical workshop, we take a loving look at the peculiarities of Danish working culture. We explore hierarchy, trust, feedback, meetings, humour, small talk, decision-making and the strange Danish habit of expecting you to take initiative while simultaneously telling you almost nothing.

You’ll learn to decode the Danes without becoming one.

Book a workshop and learn:

  • Why your Danish boss may look and sound remarkably unlike a boss
  • Why disagreeing with your manager can be a sign of engagement
  • What Danes really mean when they say “interesting”, “maybe” or “we’ll have a look at it”
  • Why trust is given surprisingly quickly – and what Danes expect in return
  • How to navigate Danish directness, understatement and irony
  • Why meetings can feel informal even when something important is being decided
  • Why leaving work early doesn’t necessarily mean working less
  • How to join the conversation when everyone suddenly switches to Danish

You’ll also get:

  • A crash course in the unwritten rules of Danish working life
  • A better understanding of what makes Danes tick
  • Plenty of recognisable cultural misunderstandings
  • Practical ways to communicate when Danish habits collide with your own
  • A chance to laugh at the Danes – preferably with them
  • Concrete ideas you can use at work the very next day
  • And perhaps most importantly: you’ll discover that when a Dane says “not bad”, you may just have received a standing ovation.
